I’ve known Sarah since she was five. Her dad is my husband’s best friend. I’d not seen her much since she left home although it doesn’t seem all that long ago I was plaiting her hair when she was seven, as we sat in a boat on Derwent Water one holiday, talking about her move up to Y3 in primary school. Right now I’m trying not to feel too old. Fortunately like me Sarah’s never really grown up.
Not long after I heard Sarah had got engaged to Adam I had a message from her through Facebook. It read ‘Hello. Long time no see, hope you are all well. This is a two-part question; Are you free on Tuesday 12 August 2014? We’re about to put the deposit down for our wedding at Swancar Farm. We’d love it if you and Mike could save the date. Second part, can you photograph our wedding? You’re the only person I’d want. x ‘ I felt so flattered.
Sarah had studied photography at college and I knew that her wedding photography was going to be important to her so of course I was going to photograph her wedding day. The 12th of August was the day Sarah’s mum and dad got married, as did her brother Ben so why shouldn’t Sarah and Adam keep it going. I knew the day, like the family, would be fun, and different, not serious, a bit random. Fitting then that the forecast was for downpours but the sky wasn’t blue it was BLUE, and that the registrar recorded the date on the marriage certificate as the 13th prior to calling Adam Amanda. You can imagine how long we kept that one going for!
To Mr. and Mrs. Crane, ‘Nanoo Nanoo.’ May you long continue never to grow up. xxxx
‘There was never any doubt who we would choose for our photography. If she was busy, she was the only thing we would be willing to move our precious wedding date for.’
